But the catch is our Mumbai-born girl, Frieda Pinto is constantly leaping ahead of her Indian counterparts in terms of the returns she is getting as well as the types of projects she is being offered.

Following the success of ‘Slumdog…’, which took home eight Oscars and whose worldwide box office receipts so far are estimated at over $ 270 million, the Indian model turned actress’ has landed a series of lucrative roles with top directors, including Woody Allen and Julian Schnabel. According to the British Daily, quoting sources said that hot shot names with which she is working will escalate her position beyond what Indian actresses have achieved so far.

Frieda Kaur Pinto, is an Indian actress and a professional model whose debut film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ won the Academy Award’s Best Picture in 2009. She won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Before playing Latika in Slumdog..., Pinto worked as a model and was seen in various advertisements like Wrigley’s, Skoda, Airtel, Vodafone etc. She modelled for four years and also featured in several telly, print and magazine covers. She learned acting from The Barry John’s Acting Studio in Andheri and was trained by her mentor Barry John. After six months of auditions, she received a call to audition for Slumdog Millionaire. Pinto auditioned for Danny Boyle and was short-listed and finally selected to star in Slumdog Millionaire.

Pinto has been cast in Woody Allen’s next film set in London. Other cast members include Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas, Naomi Watts, and Nicole Kidman.
